Bring A Bike Leave It – CYCLES 4 CHANGE
Getting a bike to and from Malekula is logistically challenging and expensive. Inspired by similar endeavors around the world, Bring A Bike Leave It (BABLI) – Cycles 4 Change offers a solution for cyclists. By leaving a bike, less fortunate Ni-Vans are given the opportunity to improve themselves and their future. Cycles 4 Change aspires to:
Community: Bicycles save time helping people get to work, educational opportunities, and socialising. Communities benefit as a result.
Collaboration: When a rider (the donor) collaborates with a local Ni-Van (the receiver) each achieve a great end result for each.
Confidence: With a set of well-maintained wheels underneath the rider, the owner will have confidence in their own independence and their ability to shape their own future.
Commitment: Bikes will not be given away. Each new cyclist will have to commit to buying their bike at a reasonable and affordable price.
Co-operative: The concept is administered by a co-operative Foundation of local community members.
Capacity: The greater the number of bikes donated, the better the capacity of the Vanuatu people to help themselves and shape a more prosperous community.
