Dog's Head Walk
Coast to coast gentle walk through the Dog's Head in Northern Malekula island.
A 2-days walk from the North East coast to the West. As described in Lonely Planet, you walk across the rugged dog's head from the small nambas territory to the Big Nambas territory. Your own personal guide introduces you to bush life and stories. You are welcomed into villages still living in a traditional way out of the world. Arriving at your bungalow, you get a cool down for a relaxing swim in the tranquil ocean Pacific side of the island .
ItineraryDay 1: Norsup Airport/Atchin – by 4x4 (2 hours approx), then Atchin to Kalele Village by foot (4 hours walk approx.)
We pick you up from airport or accommodation, drive you up to the North East coast until Atchin where you meet your personal guide. Your two days adventure start with an easy walk following a truck track through coconut, cocoa plantations then a single track through local garden and bambou forest. After a traditional lunch at Botco with the villagers, it’s less than one hour walk up and down under the rainforest with a nice mountain view. You cross a river, a steep hill and the untouched Kalele village we delight you. You sleep at the primary school in a classroom made with local materials. Opportunity to taste kava with John the village chief alongside the river under the star; a unique magic instant out of the world! Day 2: Kalele – Tenmaru (7 hour walk approx.) A long day up and down on a single track. Highlights are: crossing rivers with nice pools to swim, big Banyan trees,traditional villages,opportunity to interact with the locals doing their daily task. Lunch at Womul village with the chief who has 3 wivies. Enjoy at the end a swim in a rock pool watching the sunset.
